Athena is a singer and sound healer from Athens, Greece. Athena started out as a classical singer and pianist, and as a student at conservatories in west Athens, and been taught by and working closely with the renowned pianist and composer Haris Kanakis, with whom she collaborated on her very first songwriting project “Lily of Heaven” in 2007. She carried on her studies at the conservatory of Corfu and studied mainly coloratura soprano repertoire and bel canto singing technique. When she arrived in the UK in 2011 she studied with famous coloratura soprano Cathy Pope but decided to make a 90 degree turn into modern and contemporary music, world music, electronic, ambient etc. Her songwriting journey made her work with many different artists as a session singer and take part in projects as vocal line creator and backing vocalist. She has been working full time as a vocal coach and piano teacher since 2014, working in several private music schools in south east London, south London and eventually north west London, teaching students of all levels, backgrounds and ages. In 2018 she completed her Masters in Popular Music Performance (Vocals) at the Institute of Contemporary Performance, part of University of East London, with honours. In 2020 she joined the dub-reggae original music project "Tarantola", as a backing vocalist, performer and songwriter/lyricist. Tarantola is an ongoing music collective project that combines dub, reggae and music from around the world and specifically south Italy to create a unique sonic environment. She then successfully released her first original music EP in 2021, under the project name “Nukemairi”, an atmospheric, meditative and cinematic EP concept which can be found in all major platforms. She has since worked as a vocal coach with students as young as 1 year old in several nurseries and also in higher education. Athena enjoys giving back to her community and offers music therapy sessions and singing circles to care homes and senior centres and working closely with patients who suffer from dementia and Alzheimers. Athena got qualified as a sound healer and sound therapist in 2023 at the College of Sound Healing in London and has been offering vocal-led group sound baths for wellbeing and relaxation for several years.
